Coke made big news last week when Aurora Cannabis Inc, a Canadian licensed cannabis producer, announced a possible future partnership with the American beverage company to develop cannabidiol (CBD) infused beverages.

As you’ve probably seen, Cannabis is one of the hottest market sectors right now. Which got us thinking. Is anyone else exploring the Cannabis beverage market? Here’s what we’ve found:

Pepsi independent bottlers currently produce and distribute a CBD infused water for Xanthic Beverages.
Xanthic reportedly filed a patent application directed to making cannabis products water soluble; the patent application has not been published.

Interestingly, Xanthic’s CBD infused water is apparently exempt from federal cannabis laws because the CBD used in these beverages is not derived from cannabis.
Corona parent Constellation Brands has invested approximately $4 billion in Canadian cannabis company Canopy Growth Corporation.

Anheuser-Bush, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Nestle, the four largest beverage companies in the US by revenue, do not appear to own any US patents or published pending US patent applications which relate to cannabis.
